这部小说是一部充满了轰鸣声的探索地球的小说。故事的大背景为维多利亚时期的英格兰。由于小说结构巨大,视野又十分阔,小说出版后便受到了热烈的追捧,并迅速成为街头巷尾人们的谈资。现在这部小说已经成为*经典的小说作品之一。 故事首先始于伦敦。小说主人公名字叫福格,他一直过着快乐的,不过有神秘的富人生活,尽管没有人知道他的财富来自于哪里。他是一个生活上十分谨慎小心,情感从不外露的人。他的生活十分有规律,几乎每天都要去一个绅士俱乐部。也正是在这个绅士俱乐部里,他受了一次挑战,有人答应给他一笔钱财,条件是他要环游世界80天后回到英国伦敦。他回到家里起行囊,带上男仆,于是始了环游世界的征程。 有趣的是,他刚踏环游世界长途旅行,有一个警察对他产生了怀疑。警察认为他可能是抢劫银行的劫匪。当然*后证明这只是个笑话。启程后几天时间里,没有发生什么重大事件。不过等他到了印度之后,困难和问题一个着一个踵而来。福格发现他想要乘坐的那列火车,铁轨还没铺好呢。于是他想了一个折中的办法:租了一头大象,跟他的仆人一起继续向前赶路。这事先没有想到的赶路方式,却成就了另外一段有趣的故事:福格和仆人在路上遇到并且挽救了一个印度女人。这个印度女人被强迫嫁给一个自己并不爱的人。一路上,通过深触,他深深地爱上了这位名字叫做奥达的女子,当他们后来回到英格兰时,他使她成为了自己的合法妻子。 综观整个行程,其中充满了各种各样的挑战,包括仆人在横滨为了看马戏团演出,与福格走散,在美国中西部遭遇当地印第安人袭等事件。仆人走丢以后,福格并没有丢下仆人自己赶路,而是凸显自己的人文情怀,四处寻找仆人。这耽误了他的行程,甚至可能会使他失去挑战机会,从而丧失一笔财产。不过,*后福格还是成功地踏上英国土地,而且看上去不仅会赢得这次挑战,时间好像还很宽裕。可就在这节骨眼上,那位怀疑他是抢劫银行的绑匪的警察先生出手了。他逮捕了福格先生。他不得不在监狱里度过一段时间,也正是这样,他手上很宽裕的时间不够用了。等到警察弄清是非,他离监狱的时候,赢得挑战的时间已经错过一天。他失败了,这令他十分沮丧。但中国有句俗话:塞翁失马,焉知非福。他是输掉了挑战的时间,但却赢得了那位印度女子奥达的芳心。奥达决定嫁给他。当他的仆人被派去安排婚礼的全部事宜时,他才意识到,婚礼的日期比他们所设想的要提早一天,因为环绕地球往东走,必须经过国际日期变更线,日子就得往回倒退一天。结果,福格先生赢了这个赌注。 儒勒·凡尔纳这一充满了喧嚣声的小说,其写作视角极其宽广,以整个地球为大背景,此外对情节的描述极其详尽与鲜活,人物的描写更是活灵活现,跃然纸上。福格先生*始出现在小说中时,是以一个冷漠的面孔出现,*终福格先生的内心世界展示给读者的时候,人们看到了他有一颗极其宽广的心,他从整天紧闭双唇,一切中规中矩的生活中逐渐将自己释放出来,他始将友情、爱情放在更加重要的地位,*后他甚至愿意输掉那次赌注,目的只有一个:赢得友情。他甚至对那次赌注的输赢结果也变得毫不在意,因为他已经赢得内心深爱的女人的爱情。 西方人从来都崇尚探险精神,这部小说当然不例外,小说对探险精神的精彩把握,在在都对读者产生极大诱惑,使人欲罢不能,必须一气呵成读完才行。另外与他的其他科幻小说不尽相同的是,本部小说更将精力集中于作者所处年代的科学技术能力上面,也就是当时人类所能达到的科学意义上的探索极限。<br/>【作者】<br/>儒勒·凡尔纳(1828 – 1905)是法国小说家、诗人和剧作家。他对未来科幻小说的影响巨大。他的作品包括Journey to the Center of the Earth,这是1864年的作品《地心旅行》,Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,1870年作品《海底两万里》,From the Earth to the Moon,《从地球到月球》,“经典英语文库”第七辑已经收录,以及这部Around the World in Eighty Days 1873年发表的作品《环绕地球80天》。儒勒·凡尔纳想象力非凡,他既写宇宙,又写海底,而他所生活的时代,人类还没有造出航空与潜海的工具呢,至于环绕地球的工具的发明也是不可想象的事情。<br/>
