In the early 1960s, Richard Avedon was commissioned by Harper's Bazaar to create Observations, a column that consisted of a series of nine photographic essays. The subject of the first essay was John F. Kennedy and his young family, who sat for formal black-and-white portraits just three weeks prior to Kennedy's presidential inauguration. Six images appeared in the magazine's February 1961 issue.That same day, Avedon created more informal color portraits of Kennedy and his family at the Kennedy compound in Palm Beach. One of these images ran as the cover of LOOK magazine's February 28 issue, with photographs by Avedon inside. 《骨董琐记全编》是著名历史学家邓之诚（1887-1960）撰写的学术笔记、读史札记，内容十分广泛，包括历史掌故、金石书画、衣着器物、里巷杂谈等等，尤详于明清典章制度、遗闻佚事，考订史实，钩稽索隐，具有很高的学术价值。有料有趣，增广见闻，被誉为“天下弟一等闲书”。 古人取鱼肉蔬菜等杂混烹制的羹，叫做骨董羹，后来比喻琐碎过时的事物，或陈旧迂腐的内容，又写作古董，所以邓之诚谦称自己琐碎的读书、读史札记为《骨董琐记》。 唐长孺先生（1911-1994）是魏晋南北朝隋唐史研究领域，继陈寅恪之后公认的祭酒，生于苏州平望，外家是南浔刘氏，从舅乃近代著名藏书家、刻书家刘承干，嘉业堂藏书楼主人，对明清掌故素所习闻。唐先生对《骨董琐记全编》的批注，有补证，有辩驳，有史源的探寻，亦有自己所见所闻及所收藏之品的补叙，不仅对阅读《骨董琐记全编》裨益甚大，也可见出魏晋隋唐史的专精之外，唐长孺先生的博雅与性情。 唐先生细书密字，批注在三联书店1955年版的天头和行间，此次全书影印，以飨读者。 三联书店1955年版末附“索引”，方便对《骨董琐记全编》的查阅利用。
