The Classic Fairytales: Retold for the Stage
The Classic Fairytales: Retold for the Stage
Charles Way
¥40.79
Three timeless tales retold for the stage by one of the UK’s most renowned writers of plays for children, Charles Way. Winner of the Writers Guild Best Children’s Play Award, his plays appeal to audiences of all ages and are translated into several languages and performed internationally. Each of the three plays explores the journey from childhood to adulthood, but each takes a specific angle. Sleeping Beauty is driven by the notion of duality. Everyone and everything in the play has a complimentary aspect; King and Queen, Castle and forest, bright witch and dark witch, etc. Gryff, half-dragon, half-human is the physical embodiment of the idea of duality and is at war with himself. This is both dramatic, since it provides the conflict needed for the drama, and thematically rich, since it explores what all of us, but more precisely children, feel as they grow up. Cinderella is a play about a journey from darkness to light, from sickness to health. Everyone in the play is under the influence of some kind of loss, and the play explores these feelings and the sometimes painful route one must take to accommodate them and move on in life. It’s a moving and beautiful play, that also manages to be tremendously funny and the introduction of Mozart as a character, whose music charts the whole journey toward light and joy, is a theatrical coup. Where Cinderella has music at its core, Beauty and the Beast has dance. This is a play about overcoming fear, and the subconscious world is represented through imagery and movement. The play begins with a startling dream sequence and then segues into the drawing-room world of a Jane Austen novel, before moving to the wilds of Dartmoor. Throughout this journey one is never sure if the play is in dreamtime or not, and Way connects this feeling to the very act of theatre itself. As ever, the themes are explored through dramatic action, and the result in Beauty and the Beast is a script of rare brevity that allows actors and directors room to explore the profound nature of the story.

The Picture of Dorian Gray
Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde's story of a fashionable young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty is one of his most popular works. Written in Wilde's characteristically dazzling manner, full of stinging epigrams and shrewd observations, the tale of Dorian Gray's moral disintegration caused something of a scandal when it first appeared in 1890. Wilde was attacked for his decadence and corrupting influence, and a few years later the book and the aesthetic/moral dilemma it presented became issues in the trials occasioned by Wilde's homosexual liaisons, trials that resulted in his imprisonment. Of the book's value as autobiography, Wilde noted in a letter, "Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry what the world thinks me: Dorian what I would like to be--in other ages, perhaps."

Un personaj deopotriv curajos i destul de la nct s fi semnat acest pact blestemat, vicios, drept i cinstit n acelai timp, afemeiat i pctos, ncpnat i realist, vntor i braconier, ducnd o via deanat, trit pe muchie de cuit, o via plin de femei i de infideliti conjugale, chefuri, prieteni la fel de vicioi, curajoi, nelinitii i realiti ca i el. Obosit de contiina care nu-l las sa adoarm, se refugiaz la ar, n nordul extrem al rii, ntre pduri i dealuri, pentru a scpa de oameni i de minciun. i descoper prieteni uitai i rude pe care n ultimii ani le ignorase. The Fiery Hierarchy: Revealing the Secret Government of the World
The Fiery Hierarchy: Revealing the Secret Government of the World
Zinovia Dushkova
¥40.79
All the peoples of the world have preserved myths and legends about a secret government which rules everything invisibly, making the most important decisions for humanity according to the just Laws of the Cosmos. This world government is Shambhala the Resplendent, headed by the Great Lord, who was once known all over the world as Prester John, a mysterious king of the East. Although this hidden government has little in common with earthly regimes, it still offered its help to leaders of different countries often. The acceptance of this higher assistance would bring these countries unprecedented flourishing, while its rejection would result in their inevitable decline. So what does the Hierarchy of Light, this biblical Jacob’s Ladder connecting the Earth and Heaven, represent? According to what laws does it rule in the Universe and on our planet? And how can you become a colleague of the Hierarchy? In Book 5 of The Teaching of the Heart series, the Lord of Love and Compassion, the Supreme Head of the Hierarchy on our planet, will tell you about the Teachers who guide life on the Earth and oppose the forces of darkness. He will help you comprehend one of the most fundamental and immutable laws of all creation: the Law of Hierarchy. In addition, in the book’s pages you will learn about an innermost link between the Teachers and their disciples and also how you yourself can come closer to the Hierarchy of Light and become its loyal colleague. The clear realization of the Hierarchy of Light will enable you to accelerate your spiritual ascent and attain the Higher Leadership, which will guide and protect you in all the righteous undertakings that you do for the good of all humanity. Will your heart accept the Supreme Guidance?

The Jewish State
The Jewish State
Theodor Herzl
¥9.48
"Der Judenstaat" (German, literally "The Jew State", commonly translated as "The Jewish State") is a pamphlet written by Theodor Herzl and published in February 1896 in Leipzig and Vienna by M. Breitenstein's Verlags-Buchhandlung. It is subtitled with "Versuch einer modernen L?sung der Judenfrage", "Proposal of a modern solution for the Jewish question", and originally called "Address to the Rothschilds" referring to the Rothschild family banking dynasty. It is considered one of the most important texts of early Zionism. As expressed in this book, Herzl envisioned the founding of a future independent Jewish state during the 20th century. He argued that the best way to avoid antisemitism in Europe was to create this independent Jewish state. Herzl, who had lived as a secular, largely assimilated Jew, was fluent in neither Hebrew nor Yiddish. His lack of contact with Jewish culture and intellectual currents, and his limited contact with Jews less assimilated than he was probably the reason he abandoned fundamental Jewish principles and rekindled Zionism with this text. The book was used to encourage Jews from all across Europe to purchase land in Palestine. In Der Judenstaat, Herzl noted the possibility of a Jewish state in Argentina.Herzl popularized the term "Zionism", which was coined by Nathan Birnbaum. The nationalist movement culminated in the birth of the State of Israel in 1948, though Zionism continues to be connected with political support of the State of Israel.

Pentru Sanda S?ntimbreanu a venit vremea rememor?rii, vremea c?nd amintirile caut? o alt? exprimare, respira?ia eternit??ii. (Nicoleta Dabija)

“Star Maker”, regarded as one of the true classics of science fiction, Star Maker is a poetic and deeply philosophical work. The story details the mental journey of an unnamed narrator who is transported not only to other worlds but also other galaxies and parallel universes, until he eventually becomes part of the "cosmic mind." First published in 1937, Olaf Stapledon's descriptions of alien life are a political commentary on human life in the turbulent inter-war years. The book challenges preconceived notions of intelligence and awareness, and ultimately argues for a broadened perspective that would free us from culturally ingrained thought and our inevitable anthropomorphism. This is the first scholarly edition of a book that influenced such writers as C.S. Lewis and Arthur C. Clarke and which Jorge Luis Borges called "a prodigious novel."?
