The world's most famous storyteller, the Danish Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) and his wonderful fairy tales are loved all over the globe. Besides being a master of the written word, he was also a very talented illustrator. No doubt, had he lived today he would probably have tried his hand on cartooning as well and maybe created some of his fairy tales as comic strips. All in all he wrote 157 fairy tales. Here is the comic strip version of The Princess on the Pea, The Fir Tree and The Little Matchgirl - three of his most famous and beloved fairy tales re-created by the Danish cartoonist Werner Wejp-Olsen.

Although Oakeshott's philosophy has received considerable attention, the vision which underlies it has been almost completely ignored. This vision, which is rooted in the intellectual debates of his epoch, cements his ideas into a coherent whole and provides a compelling defence of modernity. The main feature of Oakeshott's vision of modernity is seen here as radical plurality resulting from 'fragmentation' of experience and society. On the level of experience, modernity denies the existence of the hierarchical medieval scheme and argues that there exist independent ways of understanding our world, such as science and history, which cannot be reduced to each other. On the level of society, modernity finds expression in liberal doctrine, according to which society is an aggregate of individuals each pursuing his or her own choices. For Oakeshott, to be modern means not only to recognise this condition of radical plurality but also to learn to appreciate and enjoy it.Oakeshott did not think that it was possible to find a comprehensive philosophical justification for modernity, therefore the only way to preserve modern civilisation seemed to be an appeal to sentiment. As a consequence he was a passionate defender of liberal education as the best way to underwrite the 'conversation of mankind.'

Is there an alternative to EU membership? What if Britain left the EU? Would it be a disastrous or liberating experience? What trade relationships could the UK forge outside the EU? How would economic and social policy be different? What are the implications for sovereignty and democracy? This text seeks to answer these questions through exploring the future options for Britain regarding its relationship with the European Union (EU). To the British establishment it seemed obvious that joining the process towards greater European integration would reverse the UK's post-war declining political influence and accelerate its rate of economic growth. Consequently, a recurrent theme is that UK participation in ever closer European integration is widely perceived as 'inevitable'. In contrast, this book both addresses and challenges this presumption by illustrating that a variety of alternative forms of relationship are feasible, together with outlining possible policy options that may compliment and enhance the consequences arising from the fundamental decision of how the UK determines its future.

Holmes and Watson have been handed the challenge of solving the London Tarot Killings. It is a shadowy episode equaling any dark conspiracy ever committed in the ancient city. Some fiend is brutally murdering random people in Lower Havering and pinning cards from the Italian deck on their faces. The string of murders seems to have some connection to the strange, unsolved slaying of the renowned solicitor Richard Corkright in his cozy, secure Merton office. At the request of the police, Holmes and his faithful chronicler begin an investigation. But unraveling the treacherous scheme of the sinister Tarot Master proves to be no simple task. As the two dauntless men pursue the case, they begin to piece together a vast plot stretching from London's lofty perches of wealth and privilege all the way down to its seedy backstreets and byways. In the course of resolving this intricate mystery, the Great Detective and his devoted assistant will deal with ritual murder and remorse-driven suicide, confront shady characters both clever and dangerous, uncover dark secrets of affluent society, and face at every turn the violent wrath of a ruthless, diabolical genius.

Lestrade panted, getting to his feet as the gang of Cheathams fell back. "e;Right now I can think of worse things than rescue by an amateur detective."e;"e;My dear Lestrade, we're simply ensuring the fight is fair."e; Sherlock Holmes somehow dissuaded the truth of that by the way his lips were coiling up at the edges (without letting go of the pipe in his teeth). Perhaps it was because he was clearly in disguise as a seedy deckhand in Dutchman's sailing clothes. From behind him the little professional could see Dr. Watson, tarred like a sailor and armed with a wicked-looking blackthorn. "e;Well, then!"e; Lestrade crowed with his fist up and parallel to the looming swarm over the tavern. "e;Who is next?"e; "e;Marcia Wilson has discovered Scotland Yard's Tin Dispatch Box."e;David Marcum, Pasticheur, Editor, and Creator of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories

The same Voice is apparently happy to shunt them around in time when both the Saskias and the SuperTwins need to appear together, particularly at the funeral of a policewoman.
