Despre Top?rceanu s-au spus aproape toate lucrurile esentiale inclusiv acela ca autorul Parodiilor originale este unul dintre cei mai moderni poeti ai vremii sale. Este interesant ca E. Lovinescu ?n general foarte atent la tot ceea ce este modern remarca trasatura cea mai importanta a lui Top?rceanu : nu putem dec?t recunoaste ?n dl. G. Top?rceanu pe cel mai autentic reprezentant al mostenirii directe a lui A. Mirea.. Acelasi critic observa ca nota diferentiala'' ca ?n Balade vesele si triste lirismul sau numai epicul ?n doze dealtfel mici se infiltreza cu umor. Ceea ce e esential la scriitor este inteligenta artistica vizibila ?n adaptarea formei la continut ?n cautarea efectului ?n preciziunea conturului? '' Fac?nd aceste judicioase observatii Lovinescu ridica si cele maui serioase obiectii : Balada popii din Rudeni sau Balada mortii de pilda par taiate cu dexteritatea unei m?ini de mester ?ntr-un material din care numai emotia si misterul lipsesc. ''Adica esentialul. Cu alte cuvinte Top?rceanu este un mestesugar desav?rsit un virtuoz ?n ceea ce priveste forma dar e lipsit de harul marii poezii. Si rezervele lui Lovinescu merg mai departe pe aceeasi linie : Cu o viziune at?t de ascutita si at?t de materiala dl. Top?rceanu a fixat peisagii cu amanunte prinse at?t de sigur si pentru a vorbi tehnic cu at?ta acurateta - ?nc?t natura pare pusa sub sticla ?ntr-o rama peste care nimic nu trece ; si tocmai acest aer de perfectie de finit st?njeneste impresia poetica. Si mai departe : inspiratia sa poetica ne da o impresie neobisnuita de luciditate daca nu cumva luciditatea aceasta nu se datoreste controlului pe care ?l exercita inteligenta asupra inspiratiei. A releva rolul prea excesiv al inteligentei ?n creatia lirica nu credem ca este un elogiu de invidiat adus unui poet liric. '' G. Ibraileanu
