What is Red Mercury and does it exist? Up until now, it has been looked at as mythical pure fusion bomb, which the Russians may well have developed. However, should it truly exist and should it fall into the wrong hands, it has the potential to cause destruction on an enormous scale. A secret Russian weapons research facility has sent a clandestine cargo on a flight out of the USSR to London and then on a British Airways flight to New York. The plane never makes it to the USA as it catches fire and goes down in the Atlantic, with all lives lost. Suspicions are raised about some of its cargo and MI5 hire an American salvage company to retrieve it. However once on American soil it mysteriously disappears. In several weeks time the Russian President will come to Washington to sign the SALT-1 agreement, with the American President. There are people from within both countries that do not want this to happen and they have devised a devastating plan, the consequences that may well start WW3. The US President and the Russian Prime Minister both contact the British Prime Minister asking for her help in the form of Max Storm and the OSC, working on the premise that they both have traitors amongst their respective communities and to utilise their own people would result in failure to stop the impending catastrophe. The OSC arrive covertly on US soil in an attempt to avert WW3. On top of this, a high profile IRA terrorist's escapes custody and begins a reign of terror in London. Paradigm of Success
Paradigm of Success
Frame, John
¥19.52
Personal success comes from taking positive action. Yet not everyone is able to take positive action and therefore they fail to meet their potential in life. Why is that? What is it that stops people from being as sucecssful as they could be? I believe I have the answer to these questions and it is all to do with Paradigms. This is because there is a direct correlation between our paradigms and how we act and behave. By changing our paradigms we immediately change the way we think and act. And because we attract to ourselves what we think about, it is essential we think about, dream about and envision our future. Our paradigms attract what is required to achieve our visions and what make us successful. The Paradigm of Success sets out a journey towrads success through having a powerful visionenergised by action that is synergised by a strong sense of 'why' and 'belief' which are framed by the paradigms. It is a journey of incremental learning that when applied may empower us to make a positive difference in our own lives and in the lives of others.

Lestrade panted, getting to his feet as the gang of Cheathams fell back. "e;Right now I can think of worse things than rescue by an amateur detective."e;"e;My dear Lestrade, we're simply ensuring the fight is fair."e; Sherlock Holmes somehow dissuaded the truth of that by the way his lips were coiling up at the edges (without letting go of the pipe in his teeth). Perhaps it was because he was clearly in disguise as a seedy deckhand in Dutchman's sailing clothes. From behind him the little professional could see Dr. Watson, tarred like a sailor and armed with a wicked-looking blackthorn. "e;Well, then!"e; Lestrade crowed with his fist up and parallel to the looming swarm over the tavern. Memoirs from Mrs. Hudson's Kitchen
Heyman-Marsaw, Wendy
¥58.76
Mrs. Hudson is possibly the most famous landlady in literature. Presiding over the comings and goings at 221B Baker Street, she saw many clients, villains and Baker Street Irregulars during the tenancy of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. This series of columns, thoughts, recipes and memoirs are from a long-running column in the Sherlockian journal Canadian Holmes. In it the author, Wendy Heyman-Marsaw, puts herself in Mrs. Hudson's shoes, up and down the 17 steps, and recounts not only the time and era but the food, dining and eating habits of Victorian England. This book explores the meals Mrs. Hudson would have prepared and served her two famous lodgers, what food they would have had while on rail journeys or eaten at hotels around London or inns around England. You will also learn about Mrs. Hudson herself, her husband and even her views towards women's roles and rights in Victorian times. With many illustrations from the Strand Magazine, readers will get a rare peek inside Victorian life.

Richie is falling, he's certain to be killed as he hits the bottom of the quarry he's tumbled over the edge of. His life is saved by the intervention of a disembodied being he eventually comes to call a Guardian of Reality. But there's a snag. The voice gives him super powers, so he isn't hurt by the fall. Trouble is, it isn't super powers like Superman, it's super powers like Supergirl, which comes as a bit of a shock as you might imagine. Richie decides to put up with being a girl, having super powers does have the odd advantage. He calls himself Saskia and everything is fine - until he meets the 'real' Saskia. Saskia Hunt is a real thirteen year old girl, while Richie is only a pretend thirteen years old. The two Saskias quickly become firm friends. A friendship that survives Richie having to explain to Saskia about not actually being a girl. At this point Saskia is apparently so upset that the Voice that fiddled with Richie changes her as well, now there are two super girls. Despite the difference in age and even in gender, the two girls, Richie in his form as Saskia, remain best friends. Now the fun begins as Saskia Chandler has to learn how to be a girl. Almost the first thing that happens is a full formal evening event that sees her stuffed into a long frock and required to be a girl in front of a whole crowd of people. Quite apart from this crash course in being a young girl, Saskia Chandler finds that she and Saskia Hunt need to use their super powers to aid others as well as themselves. They never actually discover why they've been changed to be more than human, but get the occasional inkling as the Voice gets them to do things it can't apparently do for itself. This includes being shuttled around in time and space and saving the whole world - twice!
Scottish Idealists
Scottish Idealists
Boucher, David
¥107.81
The extent to which British Idealism was heavily influenced by Scots has been little noticed, yet not only were they at the forefront of introducing Hegel into Britain in the work of Ferrier, Carlyle, Hutcheson, Stirling and Edward Caird, but they were also distinctive in locating themselves in relation to the Scottish philosophical tradition they sought to extend. The Scottish Idealists, among them Edward Caird, David George Ritchie, Andrew Seth Pringle Pattison, William Mitchell, John Watson, and the Welshman Henry Jones who found his spiritual home in Glasgow, comprised a formidable force and dominated the philosophical professoriate in Britain, Australia and Canada from the late nineteenth century to the years leading up to the First World War. Its main centres were St. Andrews, Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland, Cardiff in Wales, and Oxford in England. This collection of readings, the first of its kind, has been chosen with a view to displaying the variety, richness and strength of the Scottish Idealist tradition, beginning with an essay from the famous Essays in Philosophical Criticism (1883), a book that set-out the future direction of enquiry for this group of thinkers who shared a 'common purpose or tendency'. Scottish Idealism was immensely spiritual in character and recognized no hard and fast distinctions between philosophy, religion, poetry and science. It was a formidable force in social and educational reform.
Philosophy of Punishment
Philosophy of Punishment
Ellis, Anthony
¥132.34
The series, St Andrews Studies in Philosophy and Public Life originates in the Centre for Ethics, Philosophy and Public Affairs, University of St Andrews and is under the general editorship of John Haldane. The series includes monographs, collections of essays and occasional anthologies of source material representing study in those areas of philosophy most relevant to topics of public importance, with the aim of advancing the contribution of philosophy in the discussion of these topics. In this volume, the author sets aside the usual division between theories of punishment that do or do not focus on retribution. In its place he proposes and explores the distinction between internalist and externalist theories. The final chapter discusses the deterrent value of punishment.

Here is the comic strip version of The Princess on the Pea, The Fir Tree and The Little Matchgirl - three of his most famous and beloved fairy tales re-created by the Danish cartoonist Werner Wejp-Olsen.
In Defence of Modernity
In Defence of Modernity
Podoksik, Efraim
¥220.63
Although Oakeshott's philosophy has received considerable attention, the vision which underlies it has been almost completely ignored. This vision, which is rooted in the intellectual debates of his epoch, cements his ideas into a coherent whole and provides a compelling defence of modernity. The main feature of Oakeshott's vision of modernity is seen here as radical plurality resulting from 'fragmentation' of experience and society. On the level of experience, modernity denies the existence of the hierarchical medieval scheme and argues that there exist independent ways of understanding our world, such as science and history, which cannot be reduced to each other. On the level of society, modernity finds expression in liberal doctrine, according to which society is an aggregate of individuals each pursuing his or her own choices. For Oakeshott, to be modern means not only to recognise this condition of radical plurality but also to learn to appreciate and enjoy it.Oakeshott did not think that it was possible to find a comprehensive philosophical justification for modernity, therefore the only way to preserve modern civilisation seemed to be an appeal to sentiment. As a consequence he was a passionate defender of liberal education as the best way to underwrite the 'conversation of mankind.'
Managing Britannia
Managing Britannia
Protherough, Robert
¥107.81
For more than thirty years the solution to all Britain's problems has been better management. As a result management schools dominate higher education and managers are at work everywhere developing 'strategies' and 'systems' and quantifying 'outcomes'. There are now more managers on the rail network than train drivers, yet the benefits of modern management of railways, schools, hospitals and universities are elusive. This is because 'management' does not exist-the academic study of 'management science' and the assumption that there are universal management skills are bogus. This book shows how modern management practices have all but destroyed politics, education, culture and religion-modern management is the cause of our national malaise.
