G. K. Chesterton
¥8.09
Classic collection of essays. According to Wikipedia: "Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874 - 1936) was an influential English writer of the early 20th century. His prolific and diverse output included journalism, philosophy, poetry, biography, Christian apologetics, fantasy and detective fiction. Chesterton has been called the "prince of paradox." He wrote in an off-hand, whimsical prose studded with startling formulations. For example: "Thieves respect property. They merely wish the property to become their property that they may more perfectly respect it."[2] He is one of the few Christian thinkers who are equally admired and quoted by both liberal and conservative Christians, and indeed by many non-Christians. Chesterton's own theological and political views were far too nuanced to fit comfortably under the "liberal" or "conservative" banner."

Classic Conrad short stories, including KARAIN: A MEMORY, THE IDIOTS, AN OUTPOST OF PROGRESS, THE RETURN, and THE LAGOON. According to Wikipedia: "Joseph Conrad (1857 – 1924) was a Polish-born English novelist. Many critics regard him as one of the greatest novelists in the English language—a fact that is remarkable, as he did not learn to speak English fluently until he was in his twenties (and always with a strong Polish accent). He became a naturalized British subject in 1886. Conrad is recognized as a master prose stylist. Some of his works have a strain of romanticism, but more importantly he is recognized as an important forerunner of modernist literature. His narrative style and anti-heroic characters have influenced many writers, including Ernest Hemingway, D. H. Lawrence, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Graham Greene, William S. Burroughs, Joseph Heller, V.S. Naipaul, Italo Calvino and J. M. Coetzee."

Mamele, care fac at?t de multe lucruri, spun adesea despre ele c? stau ?n cas? ?i nu fac nimic. Se simt singure, invizibile ?i ne?nsemnate. ?i asta de?i fiecare mam? Autoarea ?ncearc? ?ns? s? ne spun? c?, ?n spatele alegerilor noastre individuale, exist? teme fundamentale, comune mai tuturor mamelor. Le ?mp?rt??im oriunde am locui ?i indiferent de epoc?.

Acum, von D?niken exploreaz? misterele Greciei Antice! ?i revolu?ionar? a siturilor ?i legendelor Greciei antice.Istoria contactelor extraterestre din Grecia Antic?De peste patru decenii, Erich von D?niken scrie ?i vorbe?te sus?in?ndu-?i ideea conform c?reia oamenii ?i extratere?trii ?i-au ?ncruci?at drumurile ?n trecutul ?ndep?rtat. ?i descoperirile arheologice curente, autorul a ajuns la c?teva ipoteze explozive. ?i surprinz?toare.

Historical novel set at the beginning of the 19th century, during violent worker protests against the mechanization of the Industrial Revolution. The Preface begins: "The beginning of the present century, glorious as it was for British arms abroad, was a dark time to those who lived by their daily labor at home. The heavy taxation entailed by the war, the injury to trade, and the enormous prices of food, all pressed heavily upon the working classes. The invention of improved machinery, vast as has been the increase of trade which it has brought about, at first pressed heavily upon the hand workers, who assigned all their distress to the new inventions. Hence a movement arose, which did much damage and for a time threatened to be extremely formidable." According to Wikipedia: "George Alfred Henty (8 December 1832 - 16 November 1902), referred to as G. A. Henty, was a prolific English novelist, special correspondent, and Imperialist born in Trumpington, Cambridgeshire, England. Biography of the author of Treasure Island, from the "Famous Scots Series". He was the man who "seemed to pick the right word up on the point of his pen, like a man playing spillikins", as G. K. Chesterton put it. He was also greatly admired by many authors, including Jorge Luis Borges, Ernest Hemingway, Rudyard Kipling, Vladimir Nabokov, and J. M. Barrie. Most modernist writers dismissed him, however, because he was popular and did not write within their definition of modernism. It is only recently that critics have begun to look beyond Stevenson's popularity and allow him a place in the canon."
