这是清朝学者伊秉绶撰写的一部俗语辞书,共分名、言、事、物四大类,每个大类收录相应的词语,约600条,内容涉及天文、时令、称谓、官制、建筑、传说、风俗、饮食、言语、服饰、名物、动植物等等,然后引书证探源,探求词的得名缘由,揭示词语的早用例,尤其是记录了相当多的方言俗语,或者加按语加以考证说明。该点校本以清嘉庆二十年柯古堂刊本为底本进行整理,点校的重点之一是复核征引文献、考辨并撰写校语,编制索引,应该说这是一部研究汉语语源、汉语词汇史有价值的参考资料。
