The Red Thumb Mark
The Red Thumb Mark
R. Austin Freeman
¥8.09
Fingerprints. A single print, being unique - not even identical twins have the same fingerprints - that single print found in the right place at the right time is sufficient to disclose the perpetrator of a crime. ? Actually, there are those who claim that identifying and matching fingerprints is not sufficiently scientific and so the fingerprint doesn't carry the weight in court that it did only a decade ago. DNA is now the sexy evidence. ? In The Red Thumbmark by R Austin Freeman, published in 1907, a single fingerprint is found at the scene of a crime. When the police are able to identify that fingerprint, the case seems closed. ? But Dr Thorndyke, the detective/barrister/medical doctor who takes on defense of this suspect, thinks he can disprove the prosecution's case, based on that same fingerprint. ? It does not take Dr Thorndyke to figure out who the criminal is. The mystery in this wonderful detective tale is who the lovely heroine is in love with. The answer may surprise you.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is the second and final novel by the English author Anne Bront?. It was first published in 1848 under the pseudonym Acton Bell. Probably the most shocking of the Bront?s' novels, it had an instant and phenomenal success, but after Anne's death her sister Charlotte prevented its re-publication. ? The novel is framed as a series of letters from Gilbert Markham to his friend and brother-in-law about the events leading to his meeting his wife. ? A mysterious young widow arrives at Wildfell Hall, an Elizabethan mansion which has been empty for many years, with her young son and servant. She lives there in strict seclusion under the assumed name Helen Graham and very soon finds herself the victim of local slander. Refusing to believe anything scandalous about her, Gilbert Markham, a young farmer, discovers her dark secrets. In her diary, Helen writes about her husband's physical and moral decline through alcohol, and the world of debauchery and cruelty from which she has fled. This novel of marital betrayal is set within a moral framework tempered by Anne's optimistic belief in universal salvation. ? The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is mainly considered to be one of the first sustained feminist novels. ? May Sinclair, in 1913, said that the slamming of Helen's bedroom door against her husband reverberated throughout Victorian England. In escaping her husband, Helen violates not only social conventions, but also English law.

Join us on an epic journey to India! K.V. Dominic, one of India's leading contemporary English poets, takes us on a trip to India in this constellation of short stories. His love for his native country is exposed through stories that cover a range of humanistic concerns, including women's empowerment, the natural environment, government and corruption, the education system, crime, the power of compassion and the question of how much influence we have in our own destinies. "Sanchita Karma, a collection of stories evocative of India with its characters, is simply sketched in a few sentences while still feeling rounded and real. From the tentative beginnings of friendship, to family problems, running from life to finding fulfilment, pointed character studies and quiet meditations--Dominic's people are often bereft, put upon and always searching for something. Through them, he speaks volumes--in a short space--about cause and effect in relationships." --Dr. Patricia Prime, poet, critic, reviewer and editor, New Zealand "The stories in Sanchita Karma deal with a wide spectrum of themes, including the helplessness and loneliness of the aged, the thirst for love, crime and terrorism, religious intolerance and superstition and corruption and unemployment. Like sips of cold water after a dusty walk in the hot sun, the vivid portrayal of these stark realities is revealed through instances of love, humanism, honesty, duty consciousness, compassion, repentance and reformation." Chandramoni Narayanaswamy, English poet, writer, essayist and translator, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India "In Sanchita Karma, K.V. Dominic's potential is testified by a simple yet realistic depiction of various characters drawn from all walks of life. The poet/short story writer portrays characters in such a way that the words emphatically flow from their mouths--and stay in our minds--as if they are time bound and dictums for all ages." --Dr. Radhamony Sarma, Professor of English (ret.), poet and critic, Chennai, India. Saucy and Bubba: A Hansel and Gretel Tale by Darcy Pattison In this modern-day Hansel and Gretel story, Saucy and Bubba struggle to get along with Krissy, their alcoholic stepmother. One freezing cold night, Krissy locks Saucy out of the house and Saucy must sleep in the barn. In a desperate move, Saucy and Bubba run away to their aunt’s house–except Aunt Vivian isn’t home. Trying to take care of Bubba for several days forces Saucy to take charge of her own life and accept a terrible sacrifice in order to find safety for herself. This is a heartbreakingly simple story that weaves through the tangled threads of a family and builds to an ending full of hope. PRAISE FOR THIS BOOK Sometimes you have to help yourself before you can help someone else, but if you mark your trail, you can always find your way home. That's what the spunky main character of Darcy Pattison's Saucy and Bubba learns in this modern day Hansel and Gretel tale. Saucy is a real character dealing with real stuff—hard stuff that doesn't have easy answers, not in real life and not in fairy tales, either. This is a really compelling and ultimately hopeful story. Highly recommended. -- Debby Dahl Edwardson, National Book Award finalist and author of My Name is Not Easy
The Great Story of Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) In Islam
The Great Story of Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) In Islam
Muham Sakura Dragon

Prophet Ibrahim known as Abraham in the Hebrew bible, is recognized in Islam as a prophet and apostle of Allah SWT (God) and patriarch of many peoples. In Muslim belief, Abraham fulfilled all the commandments and trials which God tried him with over his lifetime. As a result of his unwavering faith in God, Abraham was promised by God to be a leader to all the nations of the world. The Quran extols Prophet Abraham as a model, an exemplar, obedient and not an idolator. In this sense, Abraham has been described as representing "primordial man in universal surrender to the Divine Reality before its fragmentation into religions separated from each other by differences in form". The Islamic holy day Eid al-Adha is celebrated in memory of the bravery of Abraham, and Muslims perform the pilgrimage to pay homage at the Kaaba which Abraham had set up and reformed. Muslims believe that the prophet Abraham became the leader of the righteous in his time and it was through him that the people of both Arabia and Israel came. Abraham, in the belief of Islam, was instrumental in cleansing the world of idolatry at the time. Paganism was cleared out by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) in both Arabia and Canaan. He spiritually purified both places as well as physically sanctifying the houses of worship. Abraham and Ismail (Ishmael) further established the rites of pilgrimage, or Hajj, which are still followed by Muslims today. Muslims maintain that Abraham further asked God to bless both the lines of his progeny, of Prophet Ismail (Ishmael) and Prophet Ishaq (Isaac), and to keep all of his descendants in the protection of God. They also believe that Prophet Muhammad SAW is a descendant of Prophet Abraham through Prophet Ishmael (Ismail).
